When can I remove my navel jewelry?

Once you have had a (navel) piercing can you remove the piercing for any
length of time (once it has healed) or must you wear some form of jewellery
at all times?
e-mail reply:
When it is healed it consists of a tube of skin continuous through the
length of the piercing. People underestimate how long it takes to establish
the "tube" - it takes 6 months to 2 years. Prior to 6 months leave the
jewelry in continuously. If it is not traumatised it may last for years
and jewelry can be left out for some time.
