When can you change nipple jewelry?

e-mail question:
When can you wear different kind of nipple jewelery?

e-mail reply:
Ideally you should not change jewelry until the piercing is fully healed, i.e. a continuous tube of skin has grown between the two visible holes. The jewelry should pass through easily, but if it does not, try lubricating it with some lavender oil or sorbolene cream.

If a piercing is not fully healed, usually less than 6 months old, you will need to be especially careful. Avoid changing externally threaded jewelry yourself as the threads can damage the inside of your piercing. Internally threaded jewelry or unthreaded jewelry (such as rings) is much safer to try changing yourself.

In any case do not attempt to change any jewelry yourself during the first two months. The healing process is just not advanced enough. Only a professional piercer should swap jewelry in new piercings.
